When a funeral takes place
A prayer of mercy for those who have passed.
Janazah is a special funeral prayer, separate from the five daily prayers. It has no fixed daily slot and may be arranged alongside a daily congregation; follow your imam on timing and restricted times. It is a collective obligation (fard kifayah): when some members of the community perform it, the duty is fulfilled for the rest. There are four takbirs, with no bowing or prostration. This guide follows the Hanafi method: hands are raised only for the first takbir, followed by the Thana. Follow your imam.
